Violation of Publication Ethics
Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s ideas or original material as if they are your own. Copying even a single sentence from another manuscript, or from your own previously published work, without proper citation, is considered plagiarism by IRJAECT. All manuscripts under review or published in IRJAECT are screened for plagiarism using specialized software. Plagiarism is a serious violation of publication ethics. CrossCheck, powered by iThenticate from iParadigms (known for Turnitin), is used to verify the originality of papers. For a searchable list of journals in the CrossCheck database, please visit ithenticate.com.
1. Data Fabrication and Falsification: Data fabrication refers to creating data or results that were never collected, while data falsification involves manipulating, changing, or omitting data or results to misrepresent the findings of the research.
2. Simultaneous Submission: Simultaneous submission occurs when a manuscript (or substantial portions of it) is submitted to multiple journals simultaneously while still under consideration by another.
3. Duplicate Publication: Duplicate publication involves submitting two or more papers with essentially the same content, hypotheses, data, discussions, and conclusions without proper cross-referencing.
4. Redundant Publications: Redundant publication refers to dividing a single study’s findings into several articles, often to artificially boost academic publication records.
5. Improper Author Contribution or Attribution: All authors listed on a manuscript must have made a significant scientific contribution and approved all claims in the manuscript. Contributors, including students and laboratory technicians, must be properly credited.
6. Citation Manipulation: Citation manipulation refers to the excessive or inappropriate inclusion of citations in a manuscript with the sole intention of boosting the citation count of an author’s work or specific journal. This misrepresents the importance of the cited works and is considered scientific misconduct.
7. Sanctions: In cases of documented violations of these policies, IRJAECT will enforce the following sanctions:
- Immediate rejection of the infringing manuscript.
- Immediate rejection of all other manuscripts submitted by any of the authors involved in the infringement.
- A minimum 36-month prohibition on all authors from submitting new manuscripts to any journal, whether individually or in collaboration with other authors of the infringing manuscript.
- A ban on all authors from serving on the editorial board of any journal.
Handling Cases of Misconduct
Once IRJAECT identifies a violation of its publication ethics, the journal takes a diligent approach to address the issue, following a clearly defined process outlined below:
1. The Editor's first step is to notify the Editorial Office of IRJAECT, providing copies of the relevant materials and a draft letter requesting an explanation from the corresponding author in a non-judgmental manner.
2. If the author's explanation is deemed unsatisfactory and the conduct appears to be serious, the matter is escalated to the Publication Committee. The Committee will review the situation and determine if the violation warrants a ban on future submissions.
3. For less severe violations, the Editor, with advice from the Publication Committee, will send the author a letter of reprimand, reminding them of IRJAECT's publication policies. If the manuscript has already been published, the Editor may request the author to publish an apology in the journal to correct the record.
4. The corresponding author will be notified of the decision. Any manuscript submitted by the author responsible for the violation, or any work they co-authored, will be immediately rejected.
5. The author responsible for the violation will be prohibited from serving on the IRJAECT editorial board or as a reviewer. IRJAECT reserves the right to take further action if necessary.
6. In severe cases, notifications may be sent to the author's affiliated institution, and the author will be banned from submitting any work to IRJAECT for a period of five years.
7. In cases of serious fraud that lead to the retraction of an article, a retraction notice will be published in the journal. The retracted article will be clearly marked as "retracted" with the retraction date in the online version.
